Novant Health is a not-for-profit healthcare system serving communities across the southeastern United States. It operates a large network of hospitals, medical centers, outpatient clinics, and physician practices, with a focus on accessible, patient-centered care.
The Novant Physician Finder is a web application that helps patients find and connect with the right healthcare providers within the Novant Health network. It allows users to search for physicians by specialty, location, availability, and other relevant criteria to narrow down options quickly. Each physician profile includes key details such as credentials, areas of expertise, office locations, and accepted insurance plans. Ultimately, Physician Finder serves as a critical entry point for patients seeking care and for Novant Health’s studio acquisition and access strategy.

To improve discoverability and performance, we migrated the Novant Physician Finder to a server-rendered architecture that made physician profiles and search results fully indexable by search engines. This change increased visibility in search, improved page load reliability, and created a stronger foundation for long-term growth.
Originally, the application was built as a Vue.js single-page application, which relied on client-side rendering and limited SEO effectiveness. We transitioned the experience to Next.js, leveraging server-side rendering to better support search indexing while maintaining a fast, responsive user experience.
